Messi decided to stay for another season

 According to reports Messi has decided to stay for another season. 

In his words "I am now staying because the president told me that the only way I could leave was by paying the £700m release clause, which is impossible.

Lionel Messi Will stay back at Barcelona for another season because no club can actually pay the huge release clause. In his contract he can leave at the end of any season for free which the season was supposed to end by June 10, but ended July 19 due to the Corona pandemic. 

Messi added that he would not take the matter to trial to force an exit because Barca is the club he loves and have given given him everything and has spent entirely of his professional career. He said "it's the club all my life, I'm settled here, Barca has given me everything. The idea of taking Barca to trial never crossed my mind.

Messi said when he told his family that he was going to leave that "It was a massive drama when I told my wife and my sons. The whole family was in tears, my sons didn't want to leave Barcelona or have to change schools," a

He went on to talk about their fall in the champions league, "I looked at the bigger picture and I want to be competing at the very top of the game, winning trophies and fighting to win the Champions League.

"You can end up winning it or not, because it's a really tough competition, but you've got to give yourselves a fighting chance.

"You've got to at least be in the mix and what we can't be having is what happened against Roma and Liverpool and in Lisbon."
